Exercise Rehabilitation

Man Lifting Kettlebell

Often the cause of injury or pain can be due to muscle imbalance, poor training technique, compensation patterns, poor neuromuscular control, lack of core stability, poor glute strength or stiffness in the thoracic or lumbar spine.

While our treatments are effective in treating a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions, it is because we have a strong focus on the rehabilitation & education aspects of pain & injury management that we are able to provide our patients with a long-term solution for their problem area/s.

An Osteopathic assessment +/- treatment/s is required to assess the area of dysfunction and serve as an inital basis before Exercise Rehabilitation sessions commence.

How are the sessions run?

We first assess your level of fitness, what you 'can/cannot' do with confidence, identify any limitations to exercise (previous or current injury), what form of exercise you enjoy/don't enjoy, and your goals. The first session needs to be booked as a Long Initial Consultation so we can obtain all the information required to work 'with' you to generate the most suitable, safe and effective program.

Our rehabilitation/exercise programs are tailored so that we ensure all exercises are executed correctly and that you feel comfortable and competent to continue to do the exercises at home. Our approach is not to require you to see us each week for rehabilitation, but instead after obtaining all information, we tailor a program, we demonstrate the exercises in our rehabilitation area of the clinic, we then ask you to show us the exercises being prescribed and once we both feel confident all exercises can be done correctly, you're happy with the exercises and feel confident to do these at home and no exercises cause aggravation, we write up a summary of your program for you to do each day at home. We repeat the program a few times in the clinic to ensure that you feel 100% happy with the exercises before we conclude the session.

We then set a time for the next session (usually a few weeks later) where we ask you to show us your exercise program, we check that the exercise technique is correct, we ask about your progress, and often add in or remove some exercises based on your preference (and ours) to get you closer to your 'goal'.  We usually continue on this plan every 4 weeks or so to check on the program, how it is going, how you are feeling, identify any issues and then also change various elements to keep the body in a continued positive path to improve musculoskeletal health.
