FAQs

Do I need a referral to see an Osteopath?

No, a referral from a GP or specialist is not required for osteopathic treatment.

Should I bring anything with me to my first consultation?

Yes. If you have any X-ray, CT, Ultrasound or MRI REPORTS (we need a copy of the reports, not just the images), any results from tests, or  additional information from another health practitioner relating to your condition, please bring these with you.

What should I wear for my consultation/s?

Being holistic practitioners, it is important that we obtain a clear view of all the related structures that may refer pain. We examine other areas of the body that can be affected & closely observe structures that may be the causative factor of your symptoms. For this reason, we ask that you wear suitable clothing for your visits (such as singlets/shorts/tracksuit) to allow us to examine and treat all areas appropriately.

For some treatments, we may ask you to disrobe into one of our patient gowns (undergarments left on) so we can assess & perform our techniques effectively. We use towels during the treatment so at all times body areas are draped appropriately. We also have a separate change area so you can disrobe in privacy.

Would I need to have a return visit?

Long subsequent consultations may be recommended if we feel that further treatment/s is/are required to most effectively treat your condition. Any subsequent consultation will include a brief series of questions about your level of discomfort and a brief physical examination followed by treatment. Our long subsequent consultations are of 1 hour duration.

When will I notice a change?

For some people this can be immediate, for others, this may be after a specific number of treatments for more deep-seated problems. While manual therapy cannot guarantee results, we usually see an improvement in our patients. It is also important to note that while all manual therapy carries risk, your practitioner will discuss any risks with you and only commence treatment with your consent.

As we look at a range of factors that be the cause, be an influence, or be an aggrevator to a problem area, the amount of change also depends on how well any lifestyle modifications that have been discussed with you during your consultation have been put into practice. We empower our patients to also be active in their musculoskeletal health through education, exercise/rehab advice and lifestyle modifications. We believe successful 'team-work' is what promotes the best improvements!

How should I expect to feel after Osteopathic treatment?

Our treatments incorporate a wide range of techniques to the problem area and to other areas that could potentially be a source of referred pain. As already stated, while most people feel a lot better immediately following our treatments, others may take a bit longer to see results or may feel some expected post treatment tenderness in the areas that had been worked on more than others. This is quite normal, and post treatment tenderness may last for 2 - 3 days. If at anytime, while we are managing your condition, you have any questions or concerns, we always encourage you to contact us directly.

What if I have cold/flu symptoms?

Ensuring a safe clinic environment for all patients is paramount. If feeling a bit under the weather with cold/flu symptoms, or have a respiratory, viral or COVID-19 infection, we request you to contact us and re-schedule your appointment for when you are feeling well again.

What if I am running late for my appointment

Please be on time for your appointment. Appointments are carefully booked around ensuring all patients receive their preferred appointment time and are not left waiting. As such late arrivals (even if you phone to inform us that you're running late) will unfortunately eat into your consultation time. The full fee will also be charged for the appointment.

We therefore suggest arriving to the clinic at least 5 minutes prior to your appointment time. We would prefer you to receive the full benefits that a complete long consultation offers.

If you intend to drive to the clinic, while there are parking spaces available, there are also customers from other surrounding businesses also competing for carparking availability, so for this reason, we also ask you to allow enough time to find parking prior to your scheduled appointment.

Cancellation Policy

For patients with a registered mobile phone number, we send out an appointment reminder text the day before the scheduled appointment, reminding you of your appointment day and time. If you feel you are unable to make this appointment or need to change your appointment time, we would appreciate you contacting us right away to let us know. As general practice policy, we require at least 24 hours notice prior to cancelling or changing an appointment. This will allow us to allocate that appointment time to another patient on our waiting list. If less than 24 hours notice is given, a $30 cancellation fee may apply. We thank-you in advance for your understanding.

(Please note, as we still pride ourselves in ensuring all patient's health and safety, this does not apply to cancellations due to having any cold/flu symptoms or due to COVID-19, where cancellations can be made at anytime. Please also note if cancelling due to either of these we would not be able to reschedule your appointment for at least 1 week later).

Can I bring a friend/family member into the consultation room with me?

As we obtain confidential information (and in some cases sensitive information) during the initial consultation, and we want all patients to feel free and comfortable while obtaining a medical history, and discussing progress, we request that only the patient needing treatment attend the consultation.

What if I am under the age of 18?

Patients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent.

Do you treat babies?

We treat adolescents and all ages+ from there at our clinic. We do not treat babies.

What if I have difficulty writing/speaking/understanding English?

You can bring someone with you to your appointment to help with interpretation. Although we will attempt to try to communicate with you directly, if this proves difficult, we will converse with the person you nominate. In this case, this would imply consent to discuss details pertaining to yourself in the company of that person and we therefore trust that all conversations we have with your nominated person will then be communicated to you accurately.

Is there wheelchair access?

There is no wheelchair access to the clinic, only stairs (see picture below). Please therefore only book a consultation if you have no problem with navigating stairs and that walking or up or down stairs doesn't tend to aggravate your issue.
