DR KERRY MARTRET (Osteopath)
B.Sc.(Biomed), B.Sc.(Clin.Sc.), M.H.Sc.(Osteo.), SFMA
Clinic Director, Osteopath, Educator
Kerry has completed a Bachelor of Science (Biomedical Sciences) Degree, a Bachelor of Science (Clinical Sciences) Degree, and a Master of Health Science (Osteopathy) at Victoria University in December 2011. She is also registered with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a member of Osteopathy Australia.
Having always been interested in Health and wellbeing, It was while studying Biomedical Sciences at Victoria University, that she further developed a keen interest and passion for Anatomy and Exercise Rehabilitation. In her final year, she completed a year long research of two resistance training methods - training to momentary muscular failure (HIT Training) versus regular resistance training. Her research evaluated the effectiveness of the training itself in achieving set goals, determined the program's safety profile & predisposition to injury and finally, reported on the likelihood of developing compensation patterns or alterations to normal biomechanics if continued long term.
While studying her final year in Biomedical Sciences, Kerry also pioneered a successful and rewarding tutoring program where she provided one-on-one and group face-to-face coaching to Nursing, Paramedic & Biomedical Science students to help improve their understanding of Anatomy, Anatomy & Physiology and Pathophysiology.
In 2013, Kerry opened her own Osteopathy practice - Healthy Living Osteopathy. First at Fitness First in Maribyrnong, VIC and then to The Centreway in Keilor East, VIC.
Since becoming an Osteopath, with a passion for rehabilitation and providing a long-term solution, Kerry has additionally gained extra skills in Pilates floor exercise to improve spinal stability, for rehabilitation of low back pain, for treatment of pelvic & hip dysfunction and strengthening the pelvic floor.
Kerry has also obtained certification as a Selective Functional Movement Assessor (SFMA) which is a movement based diagnostic system that examines movement patterns in both the painful & non-painful individual and is based on the concept that since pain, or previous injury often results in changes in motor control, various testing protocols can be implemented to identify these subtle changes. These further tools not only complement her Osteopathic skills in assessment, treatment & rehabilitation prescription, but these can be helpful in assessing functional & dysfunctional movement patterns + further help to determine if dysfunction may be due to a 'mobility' issue or a 'core stability' problem. Most helpful in the athlete who is aiming to improve their training.

As a trained Workplace Ergonomic Assessor, Kerry additionally finds it important to educate office workers on the importance of maintaining optimal spinal & peripheral joint alignment while sitting at a desk and enjoys providing simple exercise advice to help reduce excessive strain on muscles & joints, reduce early onset of muscular fatigue, prevent injury and generally create a more comfortable workstation.
Kerry has a special interest in treating seniors to help them become more active and provide them with exercise and lifestyle advice to help relieve the symptoms associated with conditions such as osteoarthritis, osteoporosis or lack of muscle strength which can hinder the motivation to exercise. Reduced balance, co-ordination and strength, tend to be a main risk factor for falls in the elderly, so Kerry also conducts one-on-one balance & falls prevention sessions in the clinic and is rather passionate about restoring the confidence in older individuals to be 'better on their feet'.

Kerry also conducts one-on-one or group Masterclasses to help new allied health graduates feel more confident in their transition to practice, and also current practitioners just wanting to improve their skills and patient satisfaction to treatment, by covering a broad range of areas such as difficult case presentations, better skills around practitioner-patient communication and how to achieve a high-quality 'red carpet' experience for patients. She also holds Masterclasses helping those interested in running their own one-on-one Exercise Rehabilitation sessions on how to conduct these to make the exercises enjoyable, effective and improve compliance.
With over 12 years experience, Kerry is a passionate and experienced practitioner who continually builds on her knowledge & hands-on skills by regularly taking part in continuous professional development workshops, seminars and other learning platforms. She prides herself in finding the cause of her patient’s pain in addition to treating the associated symptoms. She uses a variety of treatment techniques that are tailored specifically to each individual.
Kerry is available for appointments on Fridays and Saturdays.
